Editing - Screen Shots

This is one of my favourite shots in our music video. We filmed this today outside the canteen at school, against a plain brick wall as we didn't want any other distractions. This shot fits in with the lyrics 'pat on my back and a swig on my brew'

We decided to film this part of the song in the toilets as it related to the song lyrics, 'it's the only place but home I feel relaxed enough to crap'. We also thought that this would add quite a comical part to the video.

We filmed this part today for our chorus. To do this, we had to take single shots of each stone we placed down which took about an hour and a half to do.  We also had to speed this sequence up quite a lot so that it was in time with the lyrics 'sticks and stones'.

We filmed this part today down an alleyway just outside of school. We edited this so that we saw Ash run at the camera with 'the other two up', and then reversed the footage so that this was repeated which we felt fitted in really well with the fast pace of the song.

Today we went to the train station to film this part, 'with the boys across the platform..'. We thought that this was a really good long shot, which wouldn't get boring as it is quite entertaining and an interesting location. Again, we sped this up so that it wasn't quite as long but it still took up quite a significant part of a verse.

When looking at our video, we decided that we needed it to be at a faster pace to match the pace of the song. Today we went up to Willingham Woods to film this shot, which we also sped up to fit in with the rest of the music video.

Today, we shot this short part of our music video to add in, as we felt one of our shots was quite long and could get quite boring if it was just one long take. We also decided to speed this up to fit in with the style of the rest of our music video.

This is part of our music video that we filmed today at the train station. We decided to have have a two shot of the main singer and actor with a 'friend I hadn't seen since I was drinking under age'. We also sped this shot up so that it fitted with the lyrics and to also fit in with the rest of our music video.

Completed Magazine Advert

This our completed magazine advert. We decided to use the same photograph on our poster as the back cover of our digipak to ensure brand identity. From analysing Ed Sheeran's magazine advert, we decided that it would be a good idea to show our album cover on the bottom left of our poster, so that our target audience would know what the album cover looked like. We also used the same font, ALL AGES, as on our digipak to ensure brand identity and a small logo of Jamie T's record label, Virgin Records, and website as extra information which was also included on the back of our digipak.
We decided to use Virgin Records as our record label because we felt it was very well known and has previously signed a number of big artists. On our magazine advert, we decided against putting an actual release date, and instead we used 'Out Now'. We thought this would grab the audiences attention and save us the dilemma of choosing a date that has already happened (i.e. the real release date), or a date in the future when the song has already been released.

Analysis of 2 Indie Magazine Adverts

This is Ed Sheeran's magazine advert, promoting his new album in Q magazine.  This advert is quite simple, yet it still stands out. It consists of a black and white photograph of Ed, with white and orange writing which contrasts with the mostly black background. The album cover also features on the magazine advert at the bottom left corner, this is usually the case when the poster image doesn't match or isn't the same as the album cover so people know who the artist is, especially if they aren't very well known and haven't been around for long. The target audience for this magazine advert is mostly dependent on the fact it was advertised in Q magazine, which means it would appeal to most people reading it as it is mostly of a rock/indie genre.

This is an advert taken from NME magazine, promoting Kings Of Leons latest album. The first unusual thing we notice is that there is not an image of the actual band. This suggests that the band is perceived of great significance to the indie genre and an image of themselves isn't needed to identify
who they are. They no longer need to sell their image to audiences as their target audience, as well as others, as they will already be aware of who they are and what their image is. Like Ed Sheerans magazine advert, this one is also quite simple, but still stands out because of the mix of colours used - different shades of orange. As this magazine advert was taken from NME magazine, which is also very similar to Q magazine, who advertise a mix of rock and indie, the target audience would most likely be similar too.

Conventions of Digipak Magazine Adverts

We looked at a range of music album adverts from magazines and identified the following conventions:

Name of Artist
Name of album
Main image
Logo
Release date
Website/s
'Includes the single...' type information
Record label logo

Those in bold we must include, the others we might include.

Ancillary Task 2 - Magazine Advert

The next part of the brief is to design: 'a magazine advertisement for the digipak'.

We have looked at how important it is to have a consistent theme across the 3 products we produce, so that they can be clearly identified by our target audience. We call this Brand Identity.

So we will make sure that we use similar/the same font/images/colour on our advert that we used for our Digipak.

Completed Digipak

This is our final front cover for the digipak.
We decided to use this location as quite a lot of our filming was done there, and we also thought it would go with the general conventions for an indie digipak. We downloaded a font for most the writing on our digipak, as we felt it would be more appropriate than the default Photoshop fonts for our genre of digipak. A parental advisory sign was placed on the bottom left of the front cover as our video contains some bad language.

This is our final back cover for our digipak. We edited the original photograph on Photoshop and changed the effect to threshold to give it a cartoon look.
We also used the font, ALL AGES, to ensure brand identity throughout our digipak. To meet the correct conventions for a digipak, we also added a bar code, iPhone code, record label and website to the bottom left.

This is the image we used on the inside back cover of our digipak. We decided to use this photograph, as one of our main locations in our music video is at the train station. However, our front cover photograph was also taken at the train station and we didn't want it to look the same, so we decided to photograph a close up of the railway track. We also changed this image into black and white so that it would match the rest of our digipak well.

This is our inside front image of our digipak. This photograph was also changed into black and white and increased in contrast, so that the final image was very sharp and so that it matched with the rest of our digipak. We felt that this photograph went well with the rest of our digipak and highlights the indie genre of our music video.
