Research

We decided that the song we wanted to do for our music video would be in the 'Indie' genre. After we chose this we then analysed a few music videos in that genre, focusing on the clothes, props and ideas in each video.

Jamie T - Sticks 'n' Stones

I really like the opening to this music video, because of the huge contrast between Jamie T and the clown - bright to dark colours.
However, in the rest of the music video, we notice the clown sat there unhappy and we see numerous shots of Jamie T jumping around and advertising his song, which isn't what we would expect from the costume. I think this music video is because it is full of fast, exciting short takes that goes with the rhythm of the song, which would be good to do something similar in our own music video.
I also feel that the shots of Jamie T and his friends behind the big sheet of glass, which they gradually smash and throw beer at, are really effective and a very clever idea.

Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict A Riot

I think the introduction to this music video is done well, a lit up drum kit with the band name, 'Kaiser Chiefs' on the front which then cuts to a close up of the lead singer and then the individual members of the band.
I like how this music video has the band very involved in it. It includes lots of close ups and short fast takes of all the members and their role in the band, along with cuts to people hitting eachother with pillows which links to the lyrics of the song, 'I Predict A Riot', in a non-violent way which is a very clever idea. These short, fast takes will keep the audience engaged with the music video, so that they will not want to take their eyes off and miss anything.
We also noticed that the band wear a lot of Fred Perry, which is a clothing brand that is associated with this genre of music. We want the main singer in our music video to be wearing this style of clothing, to fit in with the whole 'Indie' style.

The Streets - Irony of it All

This music video emphasises Mike Skinners (lead) smart, great takes on the music industry. This song is about how off it is that alcohol is legal and weed isn't. At the beginning of this music video, we straight away see a close up of the artist, which suggests already that he plays an important character.
Some of the first lyrics we hear "And when the weekends here I to exercise my right to get paralytic and fight", these lyrics fit in with the location of a pub, which we know because of the bar and pool table.
I really like the idea that Mike Skinner plays different persona's, the 2 points of view - the drunk & the stoner, which makes the video very original and
interesting to watch and still a humorous aspect to the video.

  1. Good start but also mention:

Types of shots used and why

How people are represented in the videos

    Locations/Props etc

The pace of the editing (which we're also getting in your own video)
